Step Into the Studio with Britt Ford

Last week we welcomed artist Britt Ford to our collection of artists.  After launching her series we wanted to learn more. We were lucky enough to speak with Britt this week about her process, inspiration and more! We can't wait to share this with you!

Her beautiful collection is available on our website here.

When did you first discover your love of art?

I first discovered my love of art when I was little. My mom always enrolled me in after school art programs when I didn’t have sports. I also was very inspired by my mom. We must have painted every room in our home 3 times and were always doing DIY projects.

How would you describe your artistic style?

I would call my artistic style modern traditional with a flare of retro pop art. I love bright colors, gold and clean lines.

What is the inspiration behind your work?

My inspiration stems from architecture, retro prints and fashion companies. I am always taking in my surroundings and that is what inspires me everyday.

How do you stay inspired?

Sometimes it is hard to stay inspired. When I feel like I’m lacking inspiration I will turn to wallpaper books, interior design magazines and Pinterest.

Describe your process.

First I design the artwork in Illustrator and project it onto the cardstock. I then trace the lines with a glue pen and apply embossing powder. I take a fine paint brush and move the powder to create clean lines and heat the two using a heat gun – which makes the powder and glue melt together and create a 3D texture. I finish by either painting in the embossed lines with gouache or watercolor.

Do you have a favorite artist?

Ashley Longshore! She is self taught as well and really expresses her personality through her work. She is so funny and honest. Her artwork is bold and truly makes a statement.

If you could describe yourself in 3 words what would they be?

Determined, loyal, hustler

What is a fun fact or something we might not know about you?

I went to school for Economics! After working in the corporate world for a few years I took the leap and went full time with Britt Ford. I actually started my company by making stationery and wedding invitations.

Do you have any upcoming events, series ideas, or exciting news that you want to share?

I am opening my second art gallery in Tampa! I will be the first art gallery in Hyde Park village and plan to open in July!
